Every object has the potential to become either positively or negatively charged when touched with another material. Remember rubbing a balloon on hair or a wool jumper at school? The material determines whether a charge is positive or negative, and how strong the charge is. However, results for similar materials can be surprising. For example wood is slightly negative, but can be processed into paper which is positive.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HAIR CHARGE

You may know that the outer layer of hair is formed of tiny 'plates', and the edges of these are negatively charged. Hair conditioners from the world's largest hair care companies contain cationic (negative charge-seeking) molecules designed to stick to these hair plate edges. Since the hair is both positive and negative at different areas, either a positive or negative fibre could bind to hair. The difference between fibres should be measured in terms of charge strength or magnitude, plus whether they are dipolar or not.

HOW NANOGEN FIBRES BINDS TO YOUR HAIR

Remember we said you could process negatively charged wood into positively charged paper? Patent pending coatings on Nanogen fibres change the keratin to create a dipolar charge. THE IMPORTANCE OF KERATIN IN HAIR FIBRE TECHNOLOGY

Why do we use keratin in our hair fibre products?

In addition to avoiding potential allergic reactions, we use keratin because quite simply nylon, silk and cotton look and feel different. Your eyes and hands are incredibly sensitive, picking up molecular differences in the fibres. Silk fibres are fine ribbons, whereas cotton fibres are broader cylinders. Keratin fibres are different too. They naturally form slightly oval cross-sections with a coating of fine plates on the outside. Hair is made from keratin, so keratin fibres look and feel right.

In short – we only use hair fibres that actually looks like hair.
